Written By: Lizzie Cole An incentive is something that motivates or encourages someone to do something. Why don’t we have it at Preston High? While we were at the junior high, we had an opportunity to go to an incentive for getting good grades. If a student’s grades were high enough, then they would get to go. When we were at the incentive, we got to ski and snowboard with people from our school. But it wasn’t just kids. We got to see our teachers go down the mountain (which was cool). It was like we had the whole resort to ourselves. Some kids learned how to ski/snowboard for the first time. Some kids liked hanging out in the lodge. Others went down the mountain with their friends. It was a fun incentive for everyone. This year the junior high changed their incentive. Instead of going to Cherry Peak, they went to Beaver Mountain. The kids who didn’t want to ski but were still eligible went to the to the fun park. This sounds very fun and most of us want to have the same privilege of going to a very fun incentive. There was a time when the high school did have a ski incentive. The high school would do the same thing the junior high did: they would load up everyone who qualified and go to skiing. But instead of Cherry Peak, they went to Beaver. What incentive do we have now that motivates to do better? We don’t get any exciting trip to go on. Our incentive is this: when we get good grades, then we have a better chance in getting into a better college. It’s not as fun as going to Beaver and skiing, but it does affect our future, and our future is very important.
